Newspaper Headlines: Gunmen kill 5 inside mosque in Nasarawa

Reports on the planned nationwide protest continue to dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that President Bola Tinubu has met with state governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ulamas as part of moves to stop the August protest. The newspaper says Tinubu may sign the N70,000 minimum wage bill next week.
THISDAY reports that traditional rulers, clerics, and Ulamas have been mobilised by the federal government to appeal to youths to cancel the nationwide protest scheduled for August. The newspaper says Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the body has the capacity to conduct LGA elections.
Daily Trust reports that Tinubu said he engaged in protests during the military regime in Nigeria without destroying properties. The newspaper says gunmen have shot dead five people sleeping inside a mosque in Katakpa community in Toto LGA of Nasarawa state.
The Guardian reports that residents of the Niger Delta states battle poverty and underdevelopment despite the existence of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The newspaper says many Nigerians have continued to mourn the death of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
