Newspaper Headlines: Gunmen seize military training camp in Niger state

Reports on the latest hike in the price of petrol dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has again increased the price of  petrol across its retail outlets. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu will submit the medium term expenditure framework and fiscal strategy paper to the national assembly next week.

 

THISDAY reports that John Onaiyekan, a cardinal and former Catholic archbishop of Abuja, said Nigeria’s development will be affected if the northern region is neglected. The newspaper says Tinubu and US President Joe Biden had a 30-minute phone call to discuss issues involving relations between both countries.
Daily Trust reports that customers have expressed their dissatisfaction over the frequent technical glitches on payment platforms. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has suspended Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, over alleged anti-party activities.
Vanguard reports that the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU) said the federal government is yet to reach out to the unions over the lingering strike. The newspaper says bandits have taken over the military training camp at Nagwamase military cantonment in Kontagora area of Niger state.
