Newspaper Headlines: Hotel cancels Shaibu’s guber declaration reservation in Edo

Reports on the planned recapitalisation of banks, and the move to address rising cost of cooking gas, dominate the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that mega banks boast of N10 trillion capital base, while others seek fresh investors. The newspaper says universities in Nigeria are battling a severe shortage of staff as thousands of lecturers leave the tertiary institutions to seek greener pastures in foreign countries.
The Nation says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to unveil measures to tackle food and energy inflation. The newspaper says the declaration of the 2024 governorship bid by Philip Shaibu, Edo deputy governor, has renewed the feud between Shaibu and Godwin Obaseki, governor of the state.

 

The Guardian reports that banks are bracing up for new monetary policy conduct and regulation under the administration of Yemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The newspaper reports that the Kogi state government has issued a query to Abdulrazaq Kotofor, Ohimege Igu, Konto-Nkarfe, over alleged involvement in partisan politics during the just concluded governorship election in the state.
Daily Trust reports that Aliyu Abdulhameed, the former managing director of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), had been arrested almost a year after he was sacked. The newspaper reports that the federal government has set up a committee to begin the process of resolving challenges on the supply of cooking gas. 
THISDAY reports that Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, said it must have pleased God to ordain Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s president, if his difficult path to victory was anything to go by. The newspaper says Sierra Leone has imposed nationwide curfew after a failed coup attempt.
