Newspaper Headlines: How $6bn NNPC debt is causing petrol supply hitches

Major Nigerian dailies’ front pages were dominated by reports that $6 billion owed to suppliers is worsening the lingering petrol scarcity in many parts of the country.

The Punch reports that President Bola Tinubu plans to rejig his cabinet to ease out underperforming ministers. The newspaper says some northern groups have criticised President Bola Tinubu over what they described as the dominance of the south-west in the appointment of heads of security agencies.
The Nation reports that suppliers are refusing to import petroleum products for the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over a $6 billion debt. The newspaper says severe flooding in some northern states has destroyed farmlands and submerged buildings.
Vanguard reports that importers are slow to respond to the federal government’s policy to suspend duties, tariffs and taxes on imported food commodities like maize, husked brown rice, wheat and cowpeas.
Nigerian Tribune reports that parents and guardians are lamenting over a huge increase in school fees ahead of the new academic session. The newspaper says the Lagos state government has set up a panel to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Waheed Ayilara, the Akwa Ibom commissioner of police.
