Newspaper Headlines: How Wike handed list of political appointees to Fubara

Report on the supreme court judgment on the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the list of commissioners, special advisers and other key aides as well as their portfolios was handed over to Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Ohanaeze Ndigbo and IPOB have criticised the supreme court for setting aside the judgment of the lower court that dismissed terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, the newspaper reports.
The Guardian reports that there is disquiet in the south-east over the judgment of the supreme court that ordered Kanu to face terrorism charges. The newspaper says the rising cost of food items has pushed Nigeria’s annual inflation to 28.20 percent in November 2023.
Daily Trust reports that families affected by the accidental bombings in Tundun Biri, Kaduna state have called for government assistance in the rebuilding of the community.
The Nation reports that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed a staggering N1.088 trillion from November’s revenue to the federal, states and LGAs. The newspaper says the northern governors have asked the federal government to end banditry and terrorism.
THISDAY reports that President Bola Tinubu has assured foreign investors of easy fund repatriation. The newspaper reports that Fubara has assured investors that Rivers is a safe haven amid the political crisis in the state.
