Newspaper Headlines: I won’t go to court over EFCC probe, says Okowa

Reports on the governorship election in Ondo permeate the frontpages today. The newspapers also dwell on the unending saga between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Dangote refinery. 

The Punch says the body of Taoreed Lagbaja, the late chief of army staff (COAS), has been laid to rest in Abuja. The newspaper reports that desperate Nigerian ladies are turning to selling their nudes online.
Weekend Trust reports that over 1.7 million people will vote for a new governor in Ondo on Saturday. The newspaper says the National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended two judges and retired two others over misconduct and age falsification.
The nation says the supreme court has dismissed the case filed by states on the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The newspaper reports that President Bola Tinubu has conferred a posthumous national award on the late COAS.
Vanguard reports that officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) rejected a suspected internet fraudster’s N174 million bribe and arrested him. The newspaper says a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) hinted that Nigeria’s economic reforms are not working. Ifeanyi Okowa, former governor of Delta state, has said he would not stop an ongoing investigation against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). 
The Guardian says Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima were among the dignitaries who paid last respects to the late COAS. The newspaper reports that the hike in fuel prices has pushed inflation to 33.88 percent.
