Newspaper Headlines: Ikpeazu shuns PDP rally as Atiku campaigns in Abia

Reports on the scarcity of naira notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Sunday Punch says members of the management team of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are to meet on Monday to review the crisis that the naira redesign programme has generated. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian military has denied speculations that some serving officers met with one of the presidential candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Daily Trust reports that the current naira scarcity is taking a toll on healthcare services across the country. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it has the capacity to print new naira notes amid the current scarcity.
The Nation says financial experts have criticised the CBN over what they described as the ill-timed and bad implementation of the naira redesign policy. The newspaper reports that Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia, was absent at the presidential campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the Umuahia township stadium, in the state.
THISDAY reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has condemned the attack on his supporters by suspected thugs in Lagos state. The newspaper says the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has denied that there is a coup d’etat in the offing ahead of the February presidential elections.
The Guardian says the federal government has vowed to secure states against peddlers of violence during the forthcoming elections. The newspaper reports that troops of the 21 armoured brigade, Bama, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in collaboration with the civilian joint task force (CJTF), have killed seven Boko Haram terrorists in four communities of Bama LGA in Borno state.
