Newspaper Headlines: INEC to get cash request from CBN on Tuesday

The appeal by President Muhammadu Buhari to  Nigerians to exercise patience on the state of the nation and the meeting of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the lingering naira notes scarcity dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governors elected on the platform of the party have held a meeting to resolve the lingering cash crunch. The newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed hope that its cash request presented to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would be met on or before Tuesday.
Daily Independent reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to Nigerians to be patient concerning the lingering  scarcity of naira notes scarcity. The newspaper says Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, has asked ministries, departments and agencies in the state to accept payments in old and new naira notes.
The Guardian says Bola Tinubu, APC flagbearer, and governors of the party have begged Buhari and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, to respect supreme court ruling on the validity of the old naira notes. The newspaper reports Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, has dismissed some quotes being attributed to him on social media regarding Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the APC.
Daily Sun reports that there are fears among INEC officials  over the spate of violent protests in some parts of the country ahead of the February 25 election. The newspaper says Anyim Pius Anyim, a former senate president and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the Nigerian writer, have endorsed the candidacy of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
THISDAY reports that Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, said the directive of Buhari on the validity of the N200 notes was not a direct affront to the supreme court. Atiku has warned Nigerians that voting for Tinubu is a transition from frying pan to fire, the newspaper says.
