Newspaper Headlines: Insecurity taking toll on Nigerians, and importers, forwarders fleece FG

The warning by Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, to Sunday Adeyemo, a youth leader better known as Igboho, and separatist groups dominated the headlines of many Nigerian newspapers. Issues on the security challenges in the country also made the headlines.

Daily Independent leads with a report on how importers, forwarders and government agencies fleece the federal government at the country’s ports. The newspaper says the Nigerian Army vowed to deal with those declaring ethnic sovereignty.
The Nation says Akeredolu has issued a warning to Igboho to steer clear of the state with his separatist agenda. North-west governors have ordered bandits to vacate the forests in the region, The Nation says.
The Punch reports the reactions trailing the comment of Fulani Nationality Movement that it is responsible for the attack on Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state. Religious and socio-cultural groups called for the arrest of individuals behind FUNAM, the Punch says.
The Nigerian Tribune reports the comment of Akeredolu that the people of Ondo state have chosen to stay in Nigeria, warning separatist groups to stay off the state. The Guardian says the government’s inability to effectively secure the country is taking a toll on the economy, adding that Nigerians are paying more for insecurity. The newspaper says the shortage of dollars in the operations of multinationals in the country has heightened the fear of takeover by foreigners.
Daily Sun says Bashir Magashi, minister of defence, raised the alarm over terror attacks, saying the country is in a critical situation. Youths of Ibarapa in Oyo state protested against the arraignment of three members of the Oodua Peoples Congress(OPC), Daily Sun reports.
