Newspaper Headlines: Marketers in suspense as NNPCL, Dangote refinery lower petrol price

Reports on the tragic food stampedes in Anambra state and the federal capital territory (FCT) dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that President Bola Tinubu has cancelled all his official events in Lagos in honour of the stampede victims in Abuja and Anambra state. The newspaper says many Christians living in the northern part of the country have expressed fear of terror attacks in states plagued by violence and terrorism.
The Nation reports that at least 37 persons were killed at food stampedes in Abuja and Anambra on Saturday. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has imposed a N150 million fine on an unnamed commercial bank for failing to dispense cash through its automated teller machines (ATMs).
Vanguard reports that food items and transportation prices have surged ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The newspaper says the price of petrol per litre has reduced to N900 amid intense competition by stakeholders in the sector.
Nigerian Tribune reports that 78 political associations have sought the approval of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to become political parties. The newspaper says the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Saturday sold approximately 20,000 litres of petrol from a tanker seized from smugglers at an auction price of ₦630 per litre in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
