Newspaper Headlines: Marketers plan direct petrol purchase from Dangote refinery

Reports on the planned shake-up of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet and the confirmation of Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) dominate the frontpages.

The Punch reports that several ministers and their political godfathers have intensified lobbying to retain their positions ahead of a planned reshuffling by President Tinubu. The newspaper says oil marketers are seeking to deal directly with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery instead of buying the company’s petrol from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
Daily Trust reports that many civil servants at the federal, state and local government areas now go to work twice or three times a week to reduce the cost of transportation. The newspaper says Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the most senior justice of the supreme court, has been confirmed as substantive CJN.
Vanguard reports that there is panic in 11 states over the release of water from the Lagdo dam. The newspaper reports that the federal government has approved a 133% increase in the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024.
Nigerian Tribune reports the presidency as saying that President Bola Tinubu will not intervene in the controversy that ensued between Dangote refinery and the NNPC over the price of petrol. The newspaper says the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the federal government a fresh 14-day pre-strike notice.
