Newspaper Headlines: Nigerians spent $6.23m on medical tourism in eight months

Reports on attacks on facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the constitutional amendment, and petrol scarcity dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says suspected hoodlums unleashed a spate of violent attacks on the INEC office in Owerri, Imo state and the People Democratic Party (PDP) campaign office in Gombe state. The newspaper reports that point-of-sale terminal operators and Femi Falana, the human rights lawyer, plan to sue the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) if it fails to withdraw the new cash withdrawal policy.
Daily Trust says petrol scarcity persists in many states of the federation despite the ultimatum issued by the Department of State Services (DSS). The newspaper reports that the federal government has cancelled the use of face masks and suspension of PCR tests as part of the relaxation of the COVID-19 travel guidelines in the aviation sector.
THISDAY reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria is at a critical moment in her political history and needs a leader with the right character and capacity to turn things around. The newspaper says Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, said state assemblies are stalling amendments to the 1999 constitution.
Daily Independent reports that the federal government said the farmers-herders crisis threatened food and national security in the country. The newspaper says Ahmad Lawan, senate president, has appealed to Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, to lobby his counterparts to prevail on their state assemblies to submit their contributions to the constitution amendment.
Daily Sun reports that Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, has blamed politicians for the attack on INEC headquarters in the state. The newspaper says Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the redevelopment of the state high court at Igbosere, which was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in October 2020.
