Newspaper Headlines: Military orders top officers to retire, gives Monday deadline

President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Ogun state and a dinner held in his honour in Marina, Lagos, dominate the front pages of newspapers today.

The Punch reports that the Defence Headquarters has given top officers, who are seniors to the newly appointed service chiefs, till Monday to retire from service. The newspaper reports the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) as saying that the devaluation of the naira will increase the cost of importation of raw materials.
The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has asked governors to be ready to work with him to fix the country’s economy. The newspaper says the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has cautioned the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) against further increase in petrol price.
THISDAY reports Tinubu as saying that he remained optimistic of emerging victorious in the February 25 presidential election despite the obstacle of the cashless policy initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The newspaper says Afenifere has asked Tinubu to urgently halt plans by some institutions to increase prices of services.
The Guardian reports that Tinubu’s sweeping reforms since he assumed office on May 30 have left Nigerians poorer and agitated. The newspaper says the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that artificial sweeteners, fizzy drinks, chewing gums and low-calorie foods pose potential cancer risks.

 


Daily Independent reports that supply glitches are stalling the new forex policy of the CBN. The newspaper says stakeholders in the aviation in­dustry have asked Tinubu to reverse most of the policies of the immediate past administration in the sector.
