Newspaper Headlines: Military, police begin raids on hoodlums’ hideouts ahead of elections

Reports on the build-up to the Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Daily Trust reports that US President Joe Biden has urged Nigerians to go out and vote in the Saturday’s polls. The newspaper says Usman Baba, inspector-general of police, has ordered a air surveillance, water and land patrols in Lagos for the election.
THISDAY reports that Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, said President Muhammadu Buhari did not breach the order of the supreme court in his directive on the validity of old naira notes. The newspaper says the military and police have vowed to defend the country’s democracy at all costs.
The Nation says chairpersons of the Labour Party (LP) across the 36 states said Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, cannot win the Saturday’s election. The newspaper reports that the Ogun state cargo airport has recorded its maiden flight.
Daily Sun reports that security agents have been mobilised to protect collation centres across the country. The newspaper says Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been released from police custody in Finland hours after questioning.
