Newspaper Headlines: Military sets up eight-member panel to probe Kaduna air strike

Reports on the demolition of the Rivers house of assembly complex and the state of the economy, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the crisis in Rivers state has assumed another dimension after the state government demolished the house of assembly complex. The newspaper says the Defence Headquarters said it has opened an investigation into the December 3 accidental bombing of Tundun Biri community in Kaduna state.
Daily Trust reports that the World Bank said the federal government may still be paying for petrol subsidy as fuel prices in Nigeria are currently not cost-reflective. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the suspension of new loan applications under its intervention programme.
THISDAY reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Rivers, has presented a N2.246 trillion budget to the Lagos house of assembly. The newspaper says nearly 200 countries have signed a deal to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
The Guardian reports that Nigeria’s population is outgrowing the country’s economy, amid falling support infrastructure and worsening macroeconomic indicators. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu has sacked heads of aviation agencies.
The Nation reports that Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, is planning to audit the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The newspaper says public tertiary institutions have been removed from the integrated payroll and personnel information system (IPPIS).
