Newspaper Headlines: More than 1,000 cases to start afresh after elevation of judges to a’court

The arrest and re-arraignment of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation’s headline reports how Kanu was arrested and whisked to Abuja for continuation of his trial. The newspaper says 11 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have received Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, to the party.
Daily Independent reports that lawyers, civil societies and other stakeholders have asked the federal government to ensure speedy and fair trial of IPOB leader. The newspaper says senate and house of representatives may pass the petroleum industry bill on Thursday.
The Punch reports that some court cases, including fraud cases instituted by the anti-graft agency will start afresh owing to the promotion of 18 judges to the appeal court.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that socio-cultural groups in the country have reacted to the arrest and re-arraignment of IPOB leader. The newspaper says three persons were killed and 10 others injured as gunmen in police uniforms attacked a community in Oyo state.
The Guardian says disbelief and shock have trailed the arrest and re-arraignment of Kanu. The newspaper reports that the move of the federal government to stake $4 billion in Dangote refinery has raised dust.
Daily Sun reports that Afenifere told President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria to avoid another civil war in the country. The newspaper says Afreximbank is set to support Ogun state with $200 million for infrastructure development plan.
