Newspaper Headlines: More troops deployed to Zamfara as Turji’s ‘N30m protection levy’ deadline elapses

Reports on the displacement of residents of Maiduguri, Borno state capital, due to the devastating flood, dominate the frontpages of Nigerian dailies.

The Punch reports that over 414,000 people have been displaced and another 30 killed by the devastating flood in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. The newspaper says petroleum marketers, refiners, and depot owners in Nigeria have called for the full deregulation of the downstream sector. 
Daily Trust reports that more soldiers have been deployed to Moriki town, Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara state, as the deadline for the payment of N30 million levy imposed on the community by notorious bandits’ leader, Bello Turji, elapses. The newspaper says the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said 693 persons in Nigeria have been killed by Lassa fever, cholera, and diphtheria since the beginning of the year.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened not to sign the peace accord for political parties participating in the September 21 governorship election. The newspaper says Gabriel Dewan, speaker of the Plateau state house of assembly, has sworn in the remaining five members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Vanguard reports that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has tasked the federal government to prioritise building and accelerating a social safety net that protects vulnerable citizens from the impact of petrol price hike. The newspaper says a federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters standing trial for alleged treason.
