Newspaper Headlines: Motorists to pay N500, N1,600 toll fee on Abuja-Makurdi road

The tolling of Abuja-Markurdi highway and the petrol price war in the domestic market are the major issues on the frontpages. 

Daily Trust reports that the rift between Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, and his predecessor, Nasir el-Rufai, escalated on Tuesday as both traded words over alleged moves to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The newspaper says the federal government has launched toll operations on the Abuja–Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi road corridor to repay the $460.8 million loan obtained from the China Exim Bank for the road’s rehabilitation and upgrade.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the federal executive council (FEC) has approved the issuance of a federal government bond worth N758 billion to settle outstanding pension liabilities owed retirees under the old defined benefit scheme. The newspaper says gunmen reportedly abducted 10 passengers at Ipele area on the Benin-Owo expressway in Ondo state.

The Nation reports that stakeholders in the maritime industry have rejected the implementation of four percent levy on imported cargoes by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) said Lagos, Ogun, Delta, Rivers and nine other states will witness early rainfall in 2025, the newspaper says.
