Newspaper Headlines: N’assembly defies parties, approves direct primaries in electoral bill

The victory of Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the November 6 Anambra governorship election appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the national assembly has passed the electoral bill, defying the pleas of political parties and governors. The newspaper reports that farmers are owing N463 billion in the CBN anchor borrowers’ programme.
The Nation reports that Soludo is now the governor-elect of Anambra state after being declared as the winner of the governorship election. The newspaper says a crisis is brewing between the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the national assembly over the retention of direct primary in the electoral act.
Daily Independent says Nigeria spends N31.2 billion yearly on coconut importation. The newspaper reports that gunmen killed seven policemen in an ambush in Zamfara.
The Guardian says the national assembly snubbed APC governors as it passed the electoral bill with direct primaries. The newspaper reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issued an ultimatum to Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo, to release its members.

The newspaper reports that IPOB declared a sit-at-home in the south-east as Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, appears in court, today.
