Newspaper Headlines: N’assembly resumes today, to accelerate tax reform bills

The suspension of the protest planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), over a 50 percent tariff hike in telecommunication services, perfuses the cover pages of today’s newspapers. 

The Punch reports that the NLC has suspended its planned nationwide protest. The newspaper says Rashidi Ladoja, former governor of Oyo, has demanded a public apology from Bisi Akande, former governor of Osun, over the comment on the murder of Bola Ige, ex-attorney-general of the federation.
Daily Trust reports that the national assembly will resume plenary today, with plans to expedite action on the tax reform bills. The newspaper says more Nigerians have criticised the ongoing trial of Usman Yusuf, the former executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), on corruption allegations.
THISDAY reports that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has threatened to punish crude oil producers in Nigeria who flout the domestic crude supply obligation (DCSO) to local refineries. The newspaper says the federal government has approved the N4.2 trillion for road contracts, including the second phase of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road.
Vanguard reports that Asue Ighodalo, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo 2024 election, has closed his case against Monday Okpebholo, governor of the state, at the election tribunal sitting in Abuja. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu has asked the federal high court in Abuja to dismiss a suit that is seeking to compel the national assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against him over alleged rights violations.
