Newspaper Headlines: New minimum wage regime to begin April 2024, says FG

Reports on the 2024 budget, new wage award for workers, and probe of gas companies, suffuse the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the federal government said a new minimum wage regime would take effect from April 1, 2024. The newspaper says Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, said his deputy, Philip Shaibu, is free to contest for the governorship seat in 2024.
The Nation reports that Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has explained how the federal government is planning to reduce the deficit in the 2024 budget. The newspaper says Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo deputy governor, and the state assembly have closed ranks.
The Guardian reports that the cure of HIV/AIDS remains elusive amid the spread of the virus. The newspaper says the senate has threatened to alert the anti-graft agencies over the recovery of the N135 billion Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intervention fund given to some companies in the oil and gas sector.
Daily Trust says the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has failed to reopen the runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, which it promised to achieve by the end of November 2023. The newspaper reports that a Nigerian nurse in the United Kingdom has been reportedly sacked by the management of her hospital after she was found praying for an elderly patient.
THISDAY reports that the national assembly has commenced debate on the N27.5 trillion budget presented by President Bola Tinubu. The newspaper says the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and stakeholders in the power sector, have advocated for a dedicated financial institution that would only cater to the energy sector, in order to meet the massive investment gap in the industry.
