Newspaper Headlines: Niger Republic junta sues Tinubu over sanctions on country

Reports on the controversy surrounding the judgment of the appeal court on the Kano governorship election dispute, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that police and youths believed to be supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), clashed during a protest in Kano against the judgment of the court of appeal which sacked Abba Yusuf, the governor of the state. The newspaper says fresh naira scarcity has hit Kano, Sokoto, Lagos, Ekiti, Kwara, Gombe and Edo states.
The Nation reports that the appeal court has clarified that the judgment on the Kano governorship election dispute declared in the open court remains valid amid controversy over discrepancies in the certified true copy of the verdict. The newspaper says the trial of 191 electoral offences suspects from the 2023 general election will commence soon.
The Guardian reports that the federal government is considering 270 fresh applications for private universities amid concerns over proliferation of varsities and poor funding. The newspaper says the judgment of the appeal court is creating tension in Kano state.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended resident electoral commissioner of Adamawa state, has reportedly taken residence in Niger Republic amid his trial in Nigeria. The newspaper says the federation account allocation committee (FAAC) said it shared N906.955 billion with the three tiers of government in October 2023.
THISDAY reports that Tinubu has approved the conduct of fresh marginal field bid round to offer for sale more oil and gas fields abandoned by the international oil companies.
