Newspaper Headlines: Nigeria earned N50trn from crude oil in 2024

The fine imposed on nine banks by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over cash scarcity at their automated teller machines (ATM) permeates the frontpages. 

Quoting data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Punch reports that Nigeria’s crude oil revenue rose to about N50.88 trillion in 2024, with the country producing 408,680,457 barrels of crude in the period under review.The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos state have demanded a probe of Mudashiru Obasa, impeached speaker of the state assembly, by the anti-graft agencies.
Daily Trust reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has sanctioned nine deposit money banks (DMB) with fines totalling N1.35 billion for failing to ensure cash availability via ATMs during the festive season. The newspaper says Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto, has resigned his membership of the PDP.

The newspaper says the national assembly joint committee on finance has given revenue generating agencies a 48-hour ultimatum to appear before it or risk being deprived of government funding in 2025.
