Newspaper Headlines: Nigeria-Niger border closure disrupts economic activities in northern states

Reports on the potential military action against the Niger Republic military junta dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that senators have advised against military intervention in Niger Republic. The newspaper says the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has accused 34 states of diverting funds meant for local government areas.
The Nation says the senate has asked Tinubu to explore political and diplomatic solutions to the current situation in the Niger Republic. The newspaper reports that Bosun Tijani, a nominee from Ogun state, has apologised to the Nigerian senate over derogatory social media posts he made against them.
THISDAY reports that the Obi-Datti presidential campaign organisation said Tinubu would not be on the ballot if the presidential election petition tribunal ordered a rerun of the February election. The newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said lessons learnt from the 2023 elections will be adopted in the next governorship elections.
The Guardian reports that the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied claims of deployment of corps members to the Niger Republic. The newspaper says the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has threatened to embark on a peaceful protest and picketing of all federal and state tertiary health institutions on Wednesday.
Daily Trust reports that vehicles conveying basic necessities from Nigeria to Niger Republic have been stranded owing to the closure of borders. The newspaper says Nigeria has lost hundreds of generals to early retirement.
