Newspaper Headlines: Nigerians fleeing Sudan in limbo as Egypt delays clearance

Reports on workers’ welfare and petitions on the February 25 presidential election dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that labour unions have scored the administrations of President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors low in terms of workers’ welfare. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it is supplying more quantities of the new naira notes to banks.
The Nation reports that the federal government and opposition political parties have clashed over the outcome of the February 25 presidential election. The newspaper says the first set of 637 Nigerian students evacuated from Sudan are stranded at the Egyptian border.
Daily Trust reports that the National Population Commission (NPC) said it is ready to conduct the national housing and population census but it is waiting to get a directive from the incoming administration of Bola Tinubu. The newspaper says bandits have killed 40 people in Kebbi and Zamfara states.
Daily Independent reports that the administration of Bola Tinubu may consider phased removal of petrol subsidy. The newspaper says Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has been inaugurated as the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
THISDAY reports that organised labour unions and the civil society coalition, under the aegis of the Citizens’ Democratic Movement, have urged the country’s judiciary to help safeguard democracy by doing justice to all election petitions brought before them. The newspaper says the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has kicked against the move by the federal government to privatise the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Nigerian Post and Telecommunications Services (NIPOST) and the Federal Medical Centres (FMCs).
