Newspaper Headlines: Nigerians groan as cash scarcity compounds hardship

The scarcity of naira notes in many parts of the country dominates the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) said any form of alliance formed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, cannot unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The newspaper says the federal government has pulled out of the foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed Osun state International Airport in Ede, following a request from Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development.
Daily Trust reports that the house of representatives has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to address the scarcity of naira notes in many parts of Nigeria. The World Bank said Nigeria is a long way from ending institutional corruption, the newspaper says.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the southern caucus in the house of representatives has endorsed the controversial tax reform bills. The newspaper says employees of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria have embarked on an indefinite strike.
Vanguard reports that Nigerians are currently battling cash scarcity amid the economic hardship. The newspaper says Dennis Okugbaye, 81-year-old treasurer of Okuama community, has reportedly died in the custody of the military.
