Newspaper Headlines: Nigerians in diaspora plan to raise $150m, N100bn for Obi’s campaign

Reports on the protracted strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the federal government has invited pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and chairpersons of governing councils of federal universities for a meeting on September 6 in a bid to resolve the ongoing ASUU strike. The newspaper says the federal government has projected an average of N120 trillion as consumption expenditure by Nigerians in three years.
The Nation reports that President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration will not permit the intimidation of voters in 2023 elections. The newspaper says the federal government has disclosed that petrol importation will end June 2023.

Daily Sun says governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed readiness to negotiate with ASUU over the ongoing strike. The newspaper reports that non-state actors killed 83 civilians and 36 security personnel in three months.
