Newspaper Headlines: NLC shelves March protest, agrees 35% telecoms tariff hike with FG

The leadership crisis in the Lagos state house of assembly permeates the frontpages.

The Punch reports that Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly, said his actions are personal and that he remains loyal to President Bola Tinubu. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has shelved its planned protest scheduled for March 1, 2025, after reaching an agreement with the federal government on a 35 percent increase in telecommunication tariffs.
Daily Trust reports that Mojisola Meranda, speaker of the Lagos assembly, and Obasa are laying claim to the speakership position of the state’s parliament. The newspaper says Abebayo Adelabu, minister of power, said Band B electricity customers are not paying enough for power in the country.
The Nation reports Bosun Tijani, minister of communications and digital economy, as saying the telecommunications tariff hike was necessary to save jobs and companies. The newspaper says the federal government has promised to clear all pension arrears in the next three months.
