Newspaper Headlines: NLC to meet Tinubu on extension of retirement age for civil servants

The rejection of the European Union (EU) election observation mission report by the presidency dominates the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers today.

The Punch reports that about 25 states in Nigeria suffered a shortage in internally generated revenue and faced a cash crunch in the first quarter of 2023. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is set to engage President Bola Tinubu on the agitation for extension of civil servants’ retirement age to 65 years.
The Nation reports that Nigerian equities have amassed N4.35 trillion in net capital gains in the past five weeks. The newspaper says the presidency has rejected the European Union (EU) election observation mission report on the general election.
Daily Trust reports that feelers from the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) indicate that Michael Bamidele, a senator from Ekiti state and Aminu Tambuwal, a senator from Sokoto, are favoured to become majority and minority leaders respectively.
The Guardian reports that the removal of petrol subsidy may have triggered a major shift in the pattern of energy consumption, as many Nigerians are now exploring solar energy. The newspaper says the national working committee of the PDP is expected to meet senators today on the minority leadership of the upper chamber.
Vanguard reports that President Bola Tinubu has outlined plans to address terrorism and insurgency in the country. The newspaper says motorists and road users plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway have expressed fears as the contractor resumes rehabilitation work on the route today.
