Newspaper Headlines: NLNG declares force majeure as flood disrupts gas supply

Reports on Nigeria’s new inflation rate and how the recent flood incidents will affect food supply dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, have stated their respective agendas to the north.  The newspaper says food supply has worsened as the country’s inflation rate hits 20.7 percent.
The Nation says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed the insinuations that Mahmood Yakubu, its chairman, is under pressure to resign ahead of the 2023 elections. The newspaper reports that Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to apologise on behalf of Atiku Abubakar, its flagbearer, who said northerners need a presidential candidate from the region.

Daily Sun reports that President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration has done very well for the country. The newspaper says the Guild of Editors has condemned the shutting down of four broadcast stations by the Zamfara state government.
The Guardian says the floods ravaging many Nigerian communities are a signal that Nigeria may face an imminent food crisis. The newspaper reports that a fresh crude oil spill has reportedly occurred in Bodo community in Gokana LGA of Rivers state.
