The Nation reports that the Benin Republic police dispersed supporters of Sunday Adeyemo, a youth leader, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from the court premises before the hearing of Igboho’s case. The newspaper says a federal high court in Abuja ordered Kanu to remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The Punch reports that the two major political parties in the country have traded words over the comments of the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the federal government is incompetent. The newspaper’s cover picture shows the supporters of the IPOB leader at the front of the federal high court, Abuja.
The Nigerian Tribune says the trial of IPOB leader in the country’s capital grounded commercial activities in Anambra and other south-east states. The newspaper reports that 124 civil society groups have threatened nationwide protest over the amended electoral Act by the national assembly.
The Guardian says the absence of Kanu owing to the inability of the DSS to produce him in court has forced a three-month delay in his trial. PDP governors have insisted on electronic transmission of election results, while rejecting direct primary, the newspaper reported.
