Newspaper Headlines: NNPC, marketers trade blame over petrol scarcity

Reports on the lingering petrol scarcity and issues pertaining to the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway dominated the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has blamed the lingering petrol scarcity on panic buying and sharp practices by some petroleum marketers. The newspaper says OPay and Palmpay have warned their customers not to trade in cryptocurrencies.
Daily Trust reports that some eminent northern leaders have cautioned against allowing the United States and the French governments to relocate their military bases to Nigeria. The newspaper says at least 42 persons have died of measles in Mubi and Gombi LGAs of Adamawa state.
THISDAY reports that Iziaq Salako, minister of state for environment, said the federal ministry of works was given preliminary environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) certification for scoping and site clearing of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road. The newspaper says Fitch, a global credit ratings agency, has revised the outlook on Nigeria’s long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating (IDR) from stable to positive.
The Guardian reports that Mohammed Idris, minister of information, said the federal government would not compromise press freedom. The newspaper reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it will prosecute Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence.
