Newspaper Headlines: NNPC ties Dangote petrol price to forex rate

The petrol crisis, and government’s assurance that the queues at filling stations will soon disappear, suffuse the frontpages of  the dailies. 

The Punch reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited said the cost of petrol from Dangote Petrochemical Refinery will be determined by foreign exchange rates and market forces. The newspaper says the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday quizzed Chris Ngige, a former minister of labour and employment, over alleged malpractices in the award of contracts at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
Daily Trust reports that Heineken Lokpobiri, the minister of state for petroleum resources (oil), has assured Nigerians that petrol will be available across the length and breadth of the country by the weekend. The newspaper says residents of some communities in Shiroro LGA of Niger state have reported that terrorists and bandits are enslaving locals on their farms.
Vanguard reports that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), house of representatives, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) have called on the federal government to reverse the hike in fuel price. The newspaper says the Nigerian Army has handed Ayomide Adeleye, the alleged killer of Christiana Idowu, a student of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), to the police command in Lagos.
The Nation reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry of finance incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to construct the green line rail in the state. The newspaper says the federal government has kicked off the sale of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidised rate of N40,000 per 50kg bag.
