Newspaper Headlines: Oil-producing states borrow N1.3trn in 7 years despite N6.4trn federal allocation

The comment of President Muhammadu Buhari that state governors are misappropriating funds meant for local government areas.

The Punch says the total debts of 10 oil-producing states rose from N2.04 trillion in December 2015 to N3.35 trillion as of June 2022, despite receiving the sum of N6.4 trillion in federal allocation and 13 percent derivation fund in seven years. The newspaper reports that Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has accused politicians of being responsible for attacks on INEC facilities.
