Newspaper Headlines: Oronsaye report implementation won’t lead to job loss, says FG

Reports on the SIM-NIN linkage and clamp down on Binance, a cryptocurrency trading platform, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Nigerian Communications Commission has ruled out an extension of the February 28, 2024 deadline for the linkage of SIM cards to National Identification Numbers (NIN). The newspaper reports President Bola Tinubu as saying that he has taken full responsibility for the economic challenges facing the country.
The Guardian reports that Nigeria spends 50 percent of its earnings from crude oil on the production of the product. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said it was intimidated and threatened by the federal government to suspend the nationwide protest.
The Nation reports that Tinubu said his administration is laying a solid foundation for restructuring. The newspaper says the federal government said the implementation of the Oronsaye report would not lead to loss of jobs for civil servants.
THISDAY reports that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has projected an investment inflow of about $17.67 billion into the upstream petroleum sector with expected cumulative 2.12 billion barrels of oil and 13.13 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas production in the next five years. The newspaper says the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may impose huge fines on Binance and other cryptocurrency firms operating in Nigeria.
