Newspaper Headlines: Osinbajo, Tinubu, Amaechi await Buhari’s directive on APC presidential primary

The decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend deadline of political parties’ primaries dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Guardian says INEC has bowed to the pressure of political parties by extending the deadline for party primaries. The newspaper reports that the supreme court has dismissed the appeal of Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, against the N96 billion probe instituted by the Rivers state government.
The Nation reports that Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, and Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, are in a tight race to clinch the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The newspaper says one person was reportedly killed during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for house of representatives in Cross River.
Saturday Punch reports that Amaechi and Wike are at loggerheads over the supreme court judgment dismissing the former’s appeal against the probe instituted by the Rivers state government. The newspaper says the total amount disbursed under the Anchor Borrowers Programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has risen to N1.01 trillion as of the end of April.
Saturday Independent says the sharing of money to party delegates is currently causing division ahead of the 2023 presidential primaries of political parties. The newspaper reports that the court has refused to grant the bail request of Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo.
Saturday Sun reports that confusion and uncertainty have trailed the presidential primary of the APC as hopefuls are waiting for the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari. The newspaper says the court has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in the 2023 presidential election.
