Newspaper Headlines: PDP governors to decide Damagum’s fate today

Reports on the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the flood in Edo state dominate the frontpages.

Daily Trust reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it discovered a consignment of illicit drugs in the house of Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, deputy majority leader of the senate. The newspaper says PDP governors will meet today to decide whether the much-anticipated national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the party scheduled for Thursday will go ahead.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that the PDP has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that it cannot add Ondo to its list of “captured” states. The newspaper says the World Health Organisation (WHO) has certified Egypt as a malaria-free country.
The Guardian reports that numerous bills that could provide much-needed relief to Nigerians are being stalled in the national assembly. An investigative panel said it has found no evidence that Idris Okuneye, a popular crossdresser known as Bobrisky, slept outside the prison walls after she was sentenced.
The Punch reports that there are fresh indications that several PDP chieftains may have resolved to snub former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and settle for Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, for the 2027 presidential election. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed 14 fresh charges of N5.78 billion alleged fraud against Abdulfatah Ahmed, former governor of Kwara state.
