Newspaper Headlines: PDP invites Jonathan for 2027 presidency

Reports on the lingering scarcity of naira notes, and crises in opposition political parties, dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election on its platform. The newspaper says there is a surge in the hawking of naira notes at exorbitant charges in different parts of the country, despite threats by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commercial banks.
Daily Trust reports that opposition parties in Nigeria are in disarray following the defection of their top members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The newspaper says farmers and fishermen in Borno are struggling to restart their trade following the collapse of the Alau dam.
The Nation reports that Godswill Akpabio, senate president, has criticised Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, over his handling of the political crisis in the state. The newspaper says many Nigerians who hail from the south-east geopolitical zone will not be travelling to their different states for the yuletide due to soaring transport fares and insecurity. 
Nigerian Tribune reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, said the political class cannot ask Nigerians to fast while they are feasting. The newspaper says the federal government has set a three-year target to migrate paper-based senior school certificate examinations to computer-based.
