Newspaper Headlines: Petrol may sell for N340 per litre in 2022, says Mele Kyari

The reactions to the comments of Lai Mohammed, minister of information, to the report of the Lagos state judicial panel on the Lekki shooting incident appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Amnesty International and other stakeholders have condemned the federal government’s rejection of the report of the Lagos judicial panel. The newspaper says governors said petrol subsidy will hamper payment of salaries in 2022.

 

The Guardian reports that the federal government’s plan to pay N5,000 to “poor” Nigerians after the removal of petrol subsidy has raised doubts. The newspaper says officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) are yet to release the passport of Peter Odili, former Rivers governor, despite court order.

 

The Nation says Mele Kyari, group managing director of the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said petrol may sell for N340 per litre in 2022. Clem Agba, minister of state for budget, said the federal government had spent N2.3 trillion as stimulus package to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, the newspaper reports.
