Newspaper Headlines: Pressure mounts on FG to release Nnamdi Kanu

Reports on the suspension of food imports duty by the federal government permeate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the federal government has announced a 150-day duty-free import window for food commodities in a bid to tackle the food inflation in the country. The newspaper says petrol now sells in Abuja and other parts of the country for N1,1o0 per litre amid the scarcity of the product.
Daily Trust reports that pressure is mounting on the federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The newspaper says the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has cautioned political leaders against muzzling traditional rulers.
The Guardian reports that unfunded deficit hit N1 trillion in nine months as the federal government battled to fund capital projects in the 2023 budget. The newspaper says a resident of the federal capital territory (FCT) caused a stir on Monday when he mounted a broadcast mast belonging to Aso Radio and Television to protest the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
The Nation reports that the political controversy in Rivers has persisted as the two factions of the state house of assembly held parallel sittings on Monday. The newspaper says the federal government has issued a three-month ultimatum to 37 contractors handling 260 emergency road projects.
