Newspaper Headlines: Pro-Fubara caretaker chairmen defect to APP ahead of Rivers LG polls

Reports on the rejection of the outcome of the September 21 governorship election in Edo suffuse the frontpages. 

The Punch reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the Edo state governorship election results and demanded an immediate review of the poll by the electoral commission. The newspaper says some caretaker committee chairmen loyal to Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, have defected to the Action Peoples Party (APP) ahead of the October 5, 2024 LGA elections in Rivers state.
Daily Trust reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commenced the process of appointing substantive directors to replace those who were relieved of their appointments. The newspaper says the federal executive council (FEC) has approved the establishment of a citizens value brigade for primary and secondary schools across the country.
Vanguard reports that the PDP said it will approach the court to retrieve the mandate allegedly stolen by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the Edo governorship election. The newspaper says Nigeria has demanded for permanent seats for Africa on the United Nations security council.
The Guardian reports that over 174,100 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were established between 2019 and 2023 in Nigeria. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have accused lawmakers of executing constituency projects through proxies.
