Newspaper Headlines: Protesters block Bauchi-Jos road over killing of charcoal dealers

Reports on the flood in Maiduguri dominate the frontpages of the newspapers.

The Punch reports that the federal government has opened the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Borno over the flood that has submerged swathes of Maiduguri. The newspaper says past and present governors in the south-west have voted more than N266 billion for the construction of new airports despite the non-viability of several existing ones.
The Nation reports that Nigeria’s foreign currency domestic bond recorded a subscription of $900 million, overshooting the initial offer size of $500 million. The presidency said the federal government did not abuse human rights violations over the arrest of Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Daily Trust reports that over 200,000 persons have been displaced by flood in Maiduguri. The newspaper says angry youths in Zaranda town, Toro LGA of Bauchi, on Tuesday blocked the Bauchi-Jos highway to protest the alleged killing of two residents of the town by a joint security team on patrol against charcoal production in the state.
