Newspaper Headlines: Protesters storm n’assembly, oppose EFCC chair’s confirmation

Reports on the federal government’s cash transfer to 15 million households, and the impeachment plot against Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deputy governor of Ondo, suffuse the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that organised labour has issued a two-week ultimatum to governors to commence negotiations on the N35,000 wage award for workers in their states. The newspaper says members of the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights have stormed the premises of the national assembly to oppose the choice of Ola Olukoyode as the next chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Nation says Wale Edun, the minister of finance, said 84 million Nigerians living in poverty is unacceptable to President Bola Tinubu. The newspaper reports that the Labour Party (LP) has asked its lawmakers to reject the N160m official vehicles awarded to each of the 360 members of the house of representatives.

The newspaper says Tinubu has appointed Musa Adamu Aliyu as the new chief executive officer (CEO) for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Nigerian Tribune reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has halted the impeachment process against Aiyedatiwa. The newspaper says the house of representatives is probing ministries, departments and agencies over the utilisation of N100 billion COVID-19 intervention fund.
