Newspaper Headlines: Recover N5trn unremitted MDA taxes, reps tell FIRS

Reports on the kidnap of 280 pupils from Kaduna, and the sack of the managing director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) over alleged N1.2 billion fraud, permeate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that over 280 pupils and teachers of Government Secondary School and LEA primary school at Kuriga, Kaduna state, were abducted by bandits on Thursday. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu has indefinitely suspended Ahmad Salihijo, the managing director/chief executive officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), alongside three executive directors of the agency, from office.
Daily Trust reports that there was no casualty as two pilots of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) suffered mishap while returning from a routine training flight. The newspaper says gunmen have attacked two commercial banks in Anyigba, Dekina LGA of Kogi, killing one security officer and one civilian.
The Guardian reports that millions of widows in Nigeria are in dire straits over lack of structure and empathy. The newspaper says Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, said no sacrifice is too big for him to make for the restoration of peace in the state.
Vanguard reports that organised labour is divided over what the new minimum wage should be. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it would sanction development finance institutions (DFIs), primary mortgage banks (PMBs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) in Nigeria over late submission of regulatory returns.
