Newspaper Headlines: Redesigned naira notes go into circulation today

The planned release of the redesigned naira notes into circulation and issues surrounding the policy dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the redesigned naira notes will go into circulation on Thursday as commercial banks are set to release the bills to their customers via over-the-counter payments. The newspaper says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has planned to spend N117 billion on electoral technology in line with its decision to deploy the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS).
The Nation reports that there were hiccups in the collection of permanent voter cards (PVCs) in INEC LGA offices across the country. The newspaper says the federal government has approved a new whistle-blower draft bill.
Daily Trust reports that Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana, has asked African leaders to stop begging for loans from western nations. The newspaper says the senate has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to increase cash withdrawal limits.
Daily Independent says the federal government is set to tighten tax administration in the country in order to increase revenues and create jobs. The newspaper reports that a federal high court in Abuja has set aside its order committing Usman Baba, inspector-general of police (IGP), to imprisonment for contempt.
THISDAY reports that the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency
Initiative (NEITI) said Nigeria lost at least 619.7 million barrels of crude oil valued at N16.25 trillion to oil theft between 2009 and 2020. The newspaper says the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has alleged that millions of voters in the region, particularly, women are being made to surrender their PVCs for N2, 000 by some political parties contesting the 2023 elections.
