Newspaper Headlines: Reps suspend debate on tax reform bills as pushback heightens

The controversy trailing the tax reform bills before the national assembly continues to make the headlines. 

The Punch reports that the house of representatives has suspended indefinitely the debate on the tax reforms bills earlier fixed for Tuesday, following pressure from the 19 governors of the north. The newspaper says military retirees across Nigeria have expressed their frustration over the persistent delay in the payment of their entitlements, despite securing approval for the funds.
Daily Trust reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will soon retire about 1,000 of its employees before the end of 2024. The newspaper says the federal government has commenced malaria vaccination for children.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the resolve of the house of representatives leadership to push for a common position on the proposed tax reform bills has suffered a setback. The newspaper says the federal government has ordered an investigation into the alleged deduction of the salaries of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel.
The Guardian reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced a nationwide strike over the non-implementation of the minimum wage. The newspaper says the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the federal government to disclose the names of companies and contractors that collected over N167 billion from 31 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), but failed to execute any project.
