Newspaper Headlines: Residents attack firefighters preventing them from scooping fuel in Oyo

Reports on the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the controversy trailing the tenure extension of Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that prominent leaders of the PDP, including the national working committee and national executive committee members, have waded into the rift between Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), and Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi. The newspaper says the Lagos house of assembly has insisted on the removal of Mudashiru Obasa, impeached speaker of the assembly.
THISDAY reports that Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said despite volatility of the naira in recent years, the international community believed the currency is now reflective of its real rate and currently more competitive. The newspaper says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and its partners have flagged off the construction of five mini-liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi state, with a total footprint of about $500 million.
Daily Trust reports that fresh controversy has trailed the tenure extension of Egbetokun. The newspaper says some residents of Sabo market, Orile Igbon, along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway in Oyo state, on Wednesday night allegedly attacked firefighters for preventing them from siphoning fuel from a fallen petrol-laden tanker.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the presidency and Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, have traded words over the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration. The newspaper says the court of appeal in Abuja has upheld the order proscribing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
