Newspaper Headlines: Resign if you can’t pay new minimum wage, labour tells governors

The national dailies said organised labour tackles governors and awaits President Bola Tinubu’s decision on the proposed N62, 000 minimum wage.

Punch reports that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) told governors to resign if they can’t afford to pay the new minimum wage the union is negotiating with the federal government. The newspaper says major oil companies continue to blame oil theft and pipeline vandalism for poor crude supply.
Daily Trust reports that the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has criticised the federal government for spending N21 billion to build the official residence for the vice-president at a time the country is facing economic hardship. The newspaper says civil servants across the country have asked the state governors to slash their salaries to enable them to pay the proposed minimum wage.
Guardian says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested over 50 suspected fraudsters when the anti-graft operatives raided two nightclubs in Ondo. The newspaper also reports that President Bola Tinubu will receive a bill proposing a transition to regional government next week.
The Nation says Joe Ajaero, president of NLC, said the union is awaiting President Bola Tinubu’s decision on the proposed minimum wage. The newspaper also said Finidi George, coach of the Super Eagles, said the team is focused on its next match with Benin Republic on Monday.
The Tribune reports that high prices of ram may lead to the low celebration of the Sallah festival. The newspaper says Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has affirmed Owolabi Olakulehin as the next Olubadan of Ibadan land.
