Newspaper Headlines: Respite for Atiku, Saraki as PDP zoning panel throws open presidential ticket

The decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoning panel, headed by Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, to throw open the party’s 2023 presidential ticket without recourse to zoning dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the PDP zoning panel has recommended an open race for the party’s 2023 presidential ticket. The newspaper says the house of representatives has asked the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Resources Commission (NUPRC) to account for the production of crude oil in the last six months.
The Nation says terrorists have attacked a military base located at Birnin Gwari LGA, Kaduna, killing about 11 soldiers. The newspaper reports that angry subscribers have besieged the enrollment centres of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) after telecommunication companies blocked their lines.

THISDAY reports that the senate has again asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare war against terrorists. Mele Kyari, chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), has urged stakeholders in the petroleum industry to help tackle crude oil theft.
