Newspaper Headlines: Security agencies on the alert over planned attacks in Lagos, Enugu

Reports on the alertness of security operatives in Lagos and other states in the south over possible terrorist attacks owing to the surge in terror attacks in Abuja and other parts of the north dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says Nigerians, who could not participate in the continuous voter registration (CVR), which ended on July 31, have expressed frustration over the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the CVR. The newspaper says electricity distribution companies (DisCos) said the federal government has failed to pay the N100bn subsidy on electricity since the privatisation of the sector.
The Nation reports that states are taking measures to prevent attacks, following the rising insecurity in Abuja and some parts of the north. The newspaper says Nigeria and other African countries have written a letter to the G-20 countries to extend their debt servicing timeline.
Daily Independent says DisCos have cried out over what they described as the federal government attempt to renationalise electricity firms. The newspaper reports that Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has asked the national assembly to tread softly on the impeachment threat to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Daily Trust says Nigerian stock market rakes in N831 billion in six months despite global disruptions. The newspaper says officials of the Department of State Services have arrested a suspected spy of Boko Haram, who took up a security job in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The Guardian says local aviation risks collapse in the country as only 38 out of 90 airplanes are currently active. The newspaper reports that 15 new cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in 10 states.
